Storing Cardstock Scraps

I had the hardest time coming up with an efficient way to store my cardstock scraps that didn't cost a ton of money. I finally came up with a solution by accident. A while back I bought the wrong kind of page protector refills for an album. I didn't realize until after I had opened them, so it wasn't possible to return them to the store. I kept trying to think of something to use them, and then I came up with putting my cardstock scraps in them, and filing them in a vertical scrapbook storage container. The page protectors are clear, which makes it really easy to see and pick out the color and size scrap I need. I'm using a lot less whole cardstock now for matting and cards, and a lot more scraps! I had my scraps stored in a large container with all of the colors together. It only took a few minutes to sort them all by colors and slide them into the page protectors. The page protectors keep them straight and unwrinkled as well, which was always a problem when I stored them in the container before. Especially when I had to dig through them to find the color I needed.

Feel free to share how you store your cardstock scraps in the comment section! I'd love to read about your solutions too.

  1. Mine are sorted by color in Creative Memories old File Mate... it basically is an accordian file folder - kind of like what some use to store their bills and whatnot.

  2. I have mine stored in a file box in file folders by color. That seems to be the easiest way for me. I also toss scraps that are smaller then 3x5.

  3. Nice idea....I don't use mine enough as they are not 'in sight'. I need to move them closer to my eye level....not up on a shelf. It is such a waste of our money not to use up those scraps. I've decided to go on a 'card making binge' and use only scraps for everything but the main card body.

  4. I like your idea Heather. I store my scraps, cardstock and pp together, in hanging file folders by color. If it's a large piece I put it on top of the similar color on my wire rack.

  5. Wonderful idea! Mine like yours are in a large plastic container all jumbled together and everytime I paw through it I mess up, bend, wrinkle, etc...I've been trying to come up with something to do with them for a while-this will be perfect! Thanks!

  8. I put mine in gallon size ziplocs sorted by color then in a clear tote that just accomodates the size of the bags.
