I had several scrap pieces of paper left over from my Que Sera Sera paper pad from K & Company so I decided to do a layout. Since they were all part of a collection, it was easy to coordinating the colors. I chose bright scraps that reminded me of the sun, or a sunrise because my picture is a high contrast photo of my dogs sharing a spot of sun. They went together beautifully. I titled my layout “Sharing the Sun.”
To create this layout I opted to cut my scraps into strips of various widths (3/8”, ½” and ¾”) and different lengths. I then laid them side by side to create a colorful band through the layout. I wanted my edges uneven, so I alternated the height of each strip. When I began gluing down the strips I started with my longest strip and made sure it was a perfect vertical by using my quilter’s ruler to line it up the edge of the paper. I then worked out toward the edges laying each strip right up against the previous strip. When I got to the edges I fished the band with a wide strip of paper that actually hung over the edge of the 12 x12 background paper. I did this on purpose so I could turn the layout over and trim the last strip of paper to a perfect fit on the 12x12 page. After that I cut my title using my digital craft cutter, the font here is Charm. I finished the layout off by adding some embellishments, a border using my Martha Stewart punch and some Prima flowers with button centers. Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteI love this page, what an excellent way to use scraps. The Fleur de Lis on the deep punch is a very nice touch that I'm going to try to remember.
