Working with Metal

Metal is a fun medium to work with in your crafting. Today I'm going to share just one idea to spark your interest in adding metal to your craft stash.

When working with metal you should always use caution. Wear glasses to protect your eyes from metal dust and particles, and use caution as metal edges can be sharp.

This project is one that can also help you recycle. For this, I used an empty lemonade can. I used a pair of tin snips to cut the top and bottom off the can. I then cut the can from top to bottom to allow me to open it and lay it flat. I cleaned and dried the can. Now you can use your punches or dies to cut the metal.

I used a Sizzix die and several flower punches. You can manipulate the cut pieces to give them shape. I snipped the petals a bit and then used the handle of a small paint brush to curl the flower petals. Layer and assemble your flower as you would with paper flowers. I've used mine to decorate a summer card. How appropriate for a lemonade can, huh?

This happens to be a hybrid card. The papers used for this card are from a digital collaborative kit called Sea, Sand and Sun (available at Scrapmatters). I've put together a template to share with you. You can download either the layered .psd file for digi/hybrid crafting or the .jpg file to use as a sketch for creating your card.
