Layout + Free Cutting Files

Hey there. This is Pam and today I am sharing my page that I created with a free cutting file. I started with an idea of overlapping half circles over one and other and realized that after I created my design, it kinda looks like mini rainbows! I repeated the design and then erased out some of the half circles.

Three Pet Pages Using Same Collection and Free Cutting Files

Hi everyone it's Pam here today sharing three pet pages with you using the brand new Chickaniddy Date Night Collection. This collection is so versatile! I am going to show you how to complete three completely different pet pages using different color combinations and papers. For each page I am going to share with you the color palette in paper form to help you get inspired.

My first page is about my dog, Gabby. She is such a loving, loyal dog. I wanted to capture in a not too girly but still in a sweet way- ya know she is a German Shepherd ;). The Date Night collection has all of the right colors to scrapbook here. I chose a little orange, with touches of mint, florals, and a great brown background.

Here is a close-up of how I did my journaling. I typed it out and put in the right amount of space so the papers and stickers would not overlap the journaling.

As for the color palette I chose, here is the color palette.

For my next page I went with a whole different color palette. I created this fun layout about my dog and snow. It RARELY snows at all here so it is a treat for a dog who grew up mostly in northern Ohio. She just loves to snow even if it is a dusting. For this color palette, you can see I chose brighter colors from the Date Night Collection like the mint green,blues,oranges, and patterned white papers. I even die cut some foil paper with the word "fun". This page was inspired by a layout by Diane Payne here on the Chickaniddy blog!

For my last page, I used the softer, sweeter patterns for a page about my dear cat. Mia is 14 years old but just as beautiful as ever. Her calico fur still looks great. I wanted to include softer muted colors so I would not overpower my photos. I chose the softer oranges, mints, grays and off white patterns. Shapes Plus Banners...Plus new cutting File!

Hi everyone!! This is Pam and I am going to be sharing what I have been working on lately. I have been pairing strips of paper (I am calling them banners) with shapes. You will see this with a couple of different layouts I have completed recently. The first page features hearts plus a banners. I created this cutting file in Photoshop and then cut it with my Silhouette in may different sizes. I cut the middle heart out in a different pattern and adhered them to my page. Here is the result: a fun Valentine's page with lots of hearts! (I will be giving this cutting file away soon on this blog, so make sure you come back to get it)

For my next page, you can see I used the same idea, but with stars. I mean, what goes better with Iron Man than some stars representing his power? My son loved his costume so much, I needed something that expressed his enthusiasm for it. Here is my page and digital cutting files after that!

Heart Layout + Free Cutting Files!

Hi there. It's Pam here sharing a heart layout and digital cutting files so you can use this template as well. When was the last time you did a layout with hearts on it? I use them quite often as they are one of my favorite shapes.

On my page below you will see a technique that I love to do on my pages. I like to make shapes pop off the page by putting a negative border around them. The Twirly Girly collection by Chickaniddy Crafts was absolutely perfect for this page. The patterns are so versatile and it was actually hard to choose which pattern would go in each heart. Below my layout you will be able to download the cutting files in JPEG, SVG, and STUDIO. Studio is for your Silhoutte. Hope you enjoy!!

New Pet Layout and Digital Cutting Files Downloads!

Hi Pam here!! I am sharing a new feature on the blog today. I am going to be sharing die cut files in the forms of .svg, .studio and .jpeg for you to create your own pages! I hope you will like this new feature and it will enable you to be able to use your cricut as well as your silhouette to cut out the files. Let's get started with sharing my page first. This is my dog Ollie looking as cute as ever!I used layered circles to create my page. I used fun bright colors for my page of Ollie. He was looking so cute and adorable!

Ok time to share the cutting files. First I will put a preview of the cutting files in .jpeg form and then the cutting files. Here is the outside circle layer.

Now for the inside circles. I combines both on one file to condense space, but you can delete the files you don't want in your programs! The larger clumped circle area goes below each single circle.

Tuxedo Card - Revisited

Way back in 2007 I made a Tuxedo card for a friends wedding. I hand cut it. Then recently, I got an email from a blog reader asking me about that card. She mentioned that she has a Silhouette Cameo. So, I decided it was time to revisit the Tuxedo Card.

This is the original card that I created. The reader that contacted me is trying to make this card for each of the groomsmen in her wedding party. No bride-to-be should have to suffer through hand cutting these pieces when they've got a Cameo. And since I'm a new Cameo owner myself, I thought I'd whip up a .studio file for this card to make her task that much easier. And guess what? Here is the new card created using the .studio file that I created. Now here is how to assemble the card:


1. Download .studio file to cut using your Silhouette electronic cutter.

2. Cut shapes using black and white cardstock as appropriate. Cut lapels using velvet cardstock (optional). Or cut lapels from black cardstock and apply embossing or flock powder and heat emboss. I used embossing powder since I don't have any velvet paper.

3. Fold back (slightly) the back of the black jacket on the dotted lines.

4. Fold down the shirt collar corners on the dotted lines.

5. Insert mini black brads for the buttons on the shirt front. Or use self adhesive pearls as buttons.

6. To make the bow, cut ⅝” wide red ribbon to 3.5”, then fold the short ends under to make a 1 ⅛” loop.

7. Pinch the center and wrap thin wire around it. Cut another 1" piece of the ribbon. Fold and adhere the long edges toward the middle on the back of the ribbon. Then wrap this around the wire of the bow tie and adhere the ends on the back. Adhere the bow tie to the white shirt.

8. Align the shirt with the back of the jacket and adhere in place.

9. To make the cummerbund, cut 3 pieces of the ribbon at 3" length. Fold and adhere one long side of one ribbon piece toward the back. Repeat on a second ribbon piece. On the third ribbon piece, fold and adhere both long sides under toward center of back of ribbon. Lay the 1st piece with the folded edge at top, then layer second piece of ribbon with folded edge slightly below 1st. Place 3rd piece of ribbon (both edges turned under) to line up with bottom edge of cummerbund. Adhere all in place.

10. Adhere the cummerbund to the bottom of the white shirt, hiding the seam; trim any excess ribbon.

11. Refold the dotted lines on the back of the jacket (slightly) to make the card easy to open.

12. Adhere the two small white pieces of cardstock to the bottoms of the sleeves to make shirt cuffs. Adhere the sleeves to the jacket back, placing the adhesive on the top half only (from shoulder to just below elbow).

13. Adhere lapels to the front pieces of the jacket using thin foam adhesive.

14. Set two black brads through the right piece of the jacket. Adhere the pieces to the jacket back, placing adhesive on the sides only. Be certain to tuck under the lower part of sleeves.

15. Refold the dotted lines on the back of the jacket.

You can also dress up the lapel with a boutonniere if you like.

A New Template with Angles!

Hi Dolores here today to share a template and sketch with great angles!  I love putting my page out of kilter from time to time.  Angles can mix things and and give you a whole fresh look.  So tilt that paper and your photo to give your layout a different perspective.  Here is my sketch.

 

Nothing is horizontal or vertical on my page, the picture, title, journaling all have angles.  I love flowers, so I really had a great time adding the flower borders to this layout.  Here is my page.

 

I created the page using a beautiful kit by Sherwood Studio called Summertime Blues.  The design gives you lots of space for journaling, however you could easily place another picture in the lower left corner if you wished to create a page with two photos instead.  You can download the template from either of the two file sharing sites below.  Enjoy!

Big Photo Template

Hey there! Cathy here, it's been a long time since I had a template to share with you. I created one that I'm sure you'll find plenty of use for.

While working on pages from a recent trip that my family took, I wanted to make a page about the room that we stayed in.  It had an amazing view.  Not that we spent a lot of time in the room, but it certainly was nice to enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean at the beginning and end of our fun filled days. The view from the room was so spectacular in all directions, that I created a panoramic photo from a series of 4 photos. I wanted to include that on the page. That was one of the driving forces behind this template design.

I made the big photo spot at the top. But since I like to include multiple photos on a page, I also included room for 3 more photos below. I also wanted to include some design elements found at the resort. We were staying at Aulani, in Ko 'Olina Hawaii. Plants and flowers surround you. Designs at the resort have both linear and flowing lines. So I used some curves as well as sharp angles in my design and of course included room for flowers and foliage.

A new Template/Sketch with Big Swirls!

Hi, Dolores here today to share a template/sketch with lots of movement.  The design incorporates big swirls into the background so you can play up your center of interest with some lovely papers.  There is also a nice path in one of the swirls to add lots of journaling.  Here is my sketch.

For our paper scrapbookers who would like to trace and cutout those background swirls, here are the basic shapes.

I think there are lots of options for adding multiple photos to this fun background.  Here is the page I created with the template.

Designer Showcase: Vacation/Travel

Hello there, it's Cathy again to bring you this weeks Designer Showcase theme. This week we are sharing vacation and travel themed projects. So sit back and relax and take a little trip with us!

Before going on vacation we have to pack our bags.  I made this suitcase box to hold a mini album that I created of a road trip that my family took last summer.  I made it using foam board, a grocery sack and digital and traditional scrap supplies.  You can find my step-by-step tutorial on my blog Scraps of Life.

This is the cover of the mini-album. I created the cover digitally, printed it out and decoupaged it to the chipboard album cover.  Using photos from our trip, I created the look of post cards from the states that we visited.

Here is a sample of one of the interior pages. You can see that I included photos as well as memorabilia that collected too.

Cindy shares 2 pages that truly showcase her style. This one and 2-pager are very clean and simple.  This is a great tip for getting your vacation pages recorded quickly. Blocking the photos and journaling helps to fit many pictures on the page. Cindy also keeps her embellishments to a minimum, which keeps her pages from looking crowded and allows the pictures to shine.

Vicky created this beautiful page that shows off a gorgeous photo from her travels. She tucks some pretty lace patterns behind the main mat paper and repeats it at the frame of the photo.  The flower cluster is wonderfully balanced by the detailed work of the chipboard faerie.

There are a lot of little details on this page by Marlene.  Let's start with her clever use of a patch that she acquired during her travels. She has placed it on her page as a featured embellishment. Great idea!  She has included a strip of map paper. On the black patterned paper she has border punched and done some blanket stitching. She has added an ornate top to the photo matting, and placed some cute buttons on the side.

Anupama created this beauty. I really love how she has brought the soft pink colors from her photo onto the page. I like how she has created a photo corner out of the title word "dawn". She adds dimension to her page with the strung seashells and chipboard accents.

On this page Anupama used a travel related patterned paper as her background.  The paper is filled with labels and could be an overpowering background. But Anupama has calmed it to help her photo stand out by ripping the paper and separating it on the page.  What a great technique.

These 3 pages from Gael showcase chateau's in the Loire Valley.  Each is a beauty all on it's own. In the top one she has framed the photo with the fussy cut paper flowers and set the chipboard like a gate leading the the chateau.  In the 2nd one Gael has created a raised frame around the gorgeous picture. Her clustering of flowers across the bottom gives the page a look of being in a garden.  The 3rd one does a great job of replicating the colors of the land and sky by bringing out the browns and blues.  Her 3 scalloped circles on the top pull the sky upward.  The one scalloped circle at the bottom visually extends the walkway.

Wow, I feel like I've traveled around the world and collected some new techniques to try out on my next vacation. I hope you've enjoyed this showcase as well.
