Designer Showcase: Water!

Did you get a chance to see last weeks Designer Showcase?  We featured  projects that involved the sun. This week we are featuring projects with water.  See a summer time trend going on here?  LOL  Well sit back and relax as you gain some more inspiration for creating projects that use your splashy summer photos.

 

Vicky has shared some of her beautiful creations with us this week.  I really like the laid back feel that you get when you look at the photo in this first one.  She carried out the feeling in her design too.  The colors are very calming and subtly extend your vision of the photo across the page. I love the flourish on the left, just like reeds coming up out of the lake.  And her title is just perfect for reflecting the emotions, "carefree".  

Check out this beach page that Vicky is sharing this week.  The curved shapes and edges of the papers and elements mimic the waves of the ocean. The layers of papers are like wave after wave rolling upon the shore.  Just beautiful!

 This is so much fun in one layout!  I love the way Heather has placed the photos.  It's as if it tells a story going from one block to the next.  She chose terrific bright, summery, happy colors too.  They really contrast and show off the black and white photos.  What a neat way to make the pictures really stand out.  Another design technique that I love on this page is the use of the cut out circles about the  page offset with the heart shape in the middle of the "o". Really sweet!

As I was looking back through some projects of mine for this category, I thought I would share 3 different types of projects.  This first one is a double page paper layout that I did about my son's first time getting into the Pacific Ocean.  The pictures really tell the story, so I let them do the talking. I kept the page simple with a bit of complementary patterned paper, stitching and doodling.

This next one is a digital page that I created.  This was one of those days that we made an impromptu trek to the beach and it turned out to be a really cherished memory.  I forgot to pack my camera, but managed to get some photos using my cell phone.  Glad I was able to capture those moments to be remembered.

And last up, I made a mini-album of photos from our family beach vacation last summer.  I used a license plate for the state where we vacationed as the cover.  On these 2 inner pages I fussy cut the waves using 2 different colors of paper to give the feeling of being in the ocean.

Stamp and Emboss

Hi everyone, Nancy here.  Today I decided to try a new technique.  You know I have used my masks to stamp before....today I decided to try embossing at the same time.  I began by spraying my mask with a bit of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.

I then formed the sandwich for my Big Shot.  This step took a while....trying to figure out the right thickness to get a good embossing.  I ended up with the cutting platform tab 1, my mask, the paper, the rubber mat and then finally, the purple plate.  I didn't get quite as deep an emboss as I would have liked, but it worked.

 And, after a quick trip through my machine.....

I ended up with an embossed image with a hint of color.  I cut around the stencil to complete the look.

Reader's Pages

Hi everyone! I have some GREAT reader's page to share with you today!

The first reader's page is by a scrapper named Theresa! She used the templates twice to create an amazing two page layout. I really haven't seen this done much, but I absolutely love he way this turned out. The first one is using the Bend Template which you can download here. She turned this into a two pager using a kit from http://amandacreation.blogspot.com/ . Check out how cool this is with the waves coming together in the middle!

On her second page, Theresa used the Two Arrows Page Template twice for another two page layout. You can download here. I love the way the arrows turned out pointing in the opposite direction. This is super cool and look amazing with the kit she used from http://amandacreation.blogspot.com/ again!

The next reader's page is by a scrapper named Amber. She also turned a sketch into a two page layout! She used Heather's June 23, 2011 sketch to create her page. You can see the sketch or download the template here. Amber's page is so cute. I adore how she used all the close-ups and called it the many of faces of Benjamin! Such a cute idea. Reader's Page Turned Into Sketch

Hey everyone! Today I am sharing a great layout and the sketch I created for it. I think it's fun to see layouts turned into a sketch. I hope this gives your some inspiration as it does me ;)

I love how this page by Cindy deRosier is designed! It balances so nicely on the page with three photos and a title on the bottom of one of the photo. I also love how your eyes are drawn up from right to left by the bee stickers! So cute! You can see more of Cindy's work here on her blog.

Designer Showcase: Sun!

Hello!  It's Wednesday so it's Cathy here with another Designer Showcase for you.  Today we are featuring projects with sun.  It's summer here where we are located and the sun has been blazing and hot! It's been a very draining summer. But even in winter the sun can shine bright and sparkle on the snow!  Ahh, snow, cool and crisp, refreshing...... oh but then there's shoveling too.  I think I'll stick with the summer for now.  Winter will be back around in these parts all too soon!

First up are some projects by Lisa.

Take a look at this stunning scrapbook page. I love the bright "sunny" look of it. The yellow gingham pattern, the lace and the adorable butterfly trails all add to the happy feel.  The denim pocket with the photos tucked in is just so shabby sweet!  Super cute!

And talk about cute.......  get a look at this awesome card that Lisa made. Oh my gosh, I can't decide which is cuter, the crab or the beach ball?  Both are so neatly pieced together.  Adorable!

Heather is sharing a project too this week.

I love the way she has tucked the sun up in the corner peaking out from behind a cloud.  She brought the bright yellow and orange colors into the main design area too.  Wonderful fun page!

And lastly, I have a few projects to share.

This first one is a digital scrap page that I created. I used two different papers to create the sun ray background on this one.  My son plays baseball in the Spring. The season starts out chilly, but ends under the steamy summer sun.

This next one is a paper scrapbook page that I created about a visit to the San Diego zoo on a trip we took to the west coast.  I paper pieced a scene to frame the photo. I ripped up pieces of scrap paper to create the tree, sky, grass and sun.  The different layers of color to the sun remind me of just how sizzling hot it was on that trip!

My final project that I'm sharing today is a mixed-media canvas that I created.  I made this on a day that I accomplished quite a lot. I was feeling really good that day and wanted to capture that feeling.  I had to include a sun in my design.  A nice bright sun always says "happy" to me.

One Sheet of Paper Challenge!

Today I am sharing a new Pion Design project made with one single sheet of paper from the "fairytale of spring" collection, including the handmade flower. This cute little cupcake treat box was created using a template from: http://www.thedigichick.com/shop/Kelleigh-Ratzlaff. I just love this template!

Here you see the components before I put them all together. The handmade flower is a modified elegant ruffle flower from my flower tutorials. Instead of a rose center, I just kept adding smaller ruffled layers in the middle.

I am hosting the monthly Scrap That! challenge for August and my challenge to you is to create any type of project using only one 12x12 sheet of patterned paper or plain cardstock. You can use whatever embellies you wish but the core of the project (layout, card, altered item etc.) must only be made with ONE piece of paper. This challenge is open to ANYONE!
