Designer Showcase: No Patterned Paper Projects

Hey there, it's Pam here today! Do you use lots of patterned papers on your pages/projects? I use a ton, in fact it is rare for me not to use patterned paper at all on a project. That is a true challenge for me. But let's say you have those perfect photos you want to scrap and there isn't a pattern in your stash to match, what are you to do?  Today I am sharing a few pages that don't have any patterned paper at all. You will be so tempted to put away that paper and just use cardstock and other supplies when you see these. Let's see what the contributors created.

Sharon created this first page. Now.. I know it's looks like there is patterned paper used, BUT she only used Technique Tuesday stamps to create this. Very, very cool. That heart pattern rocks.
Notice she even stamped the outside border of the page.
BRIGHT IDEA #1: Create your own patterns with stamps using them in a repetitive way to create your own patterned paper!

Here is another page by Sharon! She only used paint, cardboard and a resist technique for her page. This turned out way cool. It fits the mood of the photo sooo well!
BRIGHT IDEA #2: Use paint and other techniques to make your background to create stunning outside look (like Sharon did below).

Cindy creates these next three pages. What I love what about Cindy's style is she really showcases the photos and journaling while still creating an eye catching design. In these next three pages you will see that you don't need patterned paper to create that "wow" page. Instead try Cindy's techniques for non-patterned paper pages. In this first page she creates her own custom look with just with mist and cardstock.
BRIGHT IDEA #3: Use mist to create your own cool look to your paper. Match it to the that theme on your page.

Cindy's second page shares a neat way to create a wave look and some adorable fish swimming along the page!
BRIGHT IDEA #4: Let a cool design (out of cardstock) make your page rather than the patterned paper.

Here is another non-patterned paper page that is really cute! I like how this is monochromatic. She does a great job focusing right in on three things: the title, photos, and journaling.
BRIGHT IDEA #5: Simplify your page by making it monochromatic and really focus on important layout features (title, photos and journaling).

The last page was created by Gael. Check out how truly cool this page is. It uses no patterned paper and instead this is how she created it,"This layout started as a sheet of plain white cardstock which I have sprayed with various colours of mists and let them blend and run.  I have also sprayed some resist canvas shapes to add some texture to the layout.  There are some black and white die cuts layered behind the photo and some of these have been embossed with a dot embossing folder."
BRIGHT IDEA #6: Add texture to your layout (you don't need patterned paper to do that). Follow the instructions Gael listed above. :)

Aren't these cool pages? Thanks for reading todays post!!

  1. I would never have guessed that Sharon made her own patterned paper for that first layout! It looks perfect. Amazing!
