Evolution of My Scrapbook Style + RAK

I love to see how people's scrapbook styles have changed over the years. Often I will look way back in someone's gallery to see how their style has changed (or not changed). So, if you are feeling up to it and you have a blog, please post how your scrapbook style has evolved and then link your post to my blog in the comments section! I WOULD LOVE to see it. If I get some participants, I will chose a couple of people to feature on the blog about the evolution of their scrapbook styles. I will also pick one person to win a fun RAK, so everyone who leaves a comment (even if it's not about your scrapbook style) will be in the running for it. You will have until Monday at noon to post a comment!

Now it's time to share how my style has evolved. I am posting layouts from over the years to show you how much my style has changed :) You can visit my gallery here to see all of the pages I have done since 2004!

Up first is 2002. This was one of the first pages I made. I didn't have too many scrapbook supplies so I used free clipart for my page!

Next up are 2004 pages. I had more scrapbook supplies and I was really into vellum and CHATTERBOX paper. I still have chatterbox paper just in case I need it in the future. Luckily Melody Ross is designing paper for GCD studios now!!

Next up is 2005. I discovered ink and I couldn't get enough of it. I would ink anything and everything. I also started using big shapes. The heart page is one of the first "big shaped" pages that I made. On the third layout down, I was really into using unique edges for my papers.

During 2006, I still used ink and really got into Shabby Chic. I loved everything about Shabby Chic pages. I think I overdid it because shortly after that I went graphic!

In 2007, I traded in my ink for more large shapes. I went super graphic which I think is the scrapbook style I am most comfortable with! I also started formatting my text to fit in a certain space. I also typed in white font on color digital paper to create white text which was part of the hybrid scrapbook movement.

In 2008, I polished up my graphic style and continued to use large alphabet and number shapes as well as starting to crop my photo block into one large shape.

In 2009, I experimented with some pretty pages (with flourishes and flowers) and also was really into scallops! I continued my graphic style and occasionally made some all hybrid pages (see R is for Reading).

In 2010, I got much more into using bracket paper for my pages. I love the large shapes in the background!! I also started to experiment with making my own scallops.

Don't forget to leave a comment to be in the running for a great rak! :)

  2. I too love seeing how style's change. I have some old scrapbook magazines...from when they first started being published. Looking at them now, I giggle and think how far this has come.

  4. Love seeing your style change! Mine certainly has as well... oh my I remember if I did a page with a theme I ran out and bought lots of stickers to match it... and remember when every page had a title at the top and photo matting, and of course a journaling BOX??? Things really have changed

  5. What a fun post. I really enjoyed going back through and looking at my first albums. I've only been blogging for a few months so I created a post just for this challenge with layouts from way back. Thanks for the idea! And thanks for looking!

  9. Wow! I enjoyed looking at your style evolve. My style is pretty eclectic! I haven't been brave enough to share any older pages. I know one thing that I used to do is cut up my pictures poorly--now I wish I hadn't. At first I didn't have many tools, but now I have a few (but not many compared to a lot of scrappers). I use a few more embellishments than I used to. Here's my blog if you are interested. I have labels set up, so you can choose scrapbook layouts and see what I have done. I just started blogging so I don't have that many to share... Thanks for a fun blog entry!!!

  12. What a great post this is! I started making layouts about a month age, so I even don't know if I have any style at all....
Still, this post is inspiring and making my head work!

  13. I've started scrapping late '08. Then, I was using construction paper as my cardstock and kiddie stickers as my embellies. Haha.. Looking back, it looked as if some Grade School kid did the work! Lol.. But we all had to start somewhere.

  14. Some gorgeous pages there! When I started out in 2004 I thought I had to use every single photo related to my project, which was of my son's first 21 years. Consequently my first pages were very overcrowded with pics. I've since realised that less is more ... I'll post some pics at my blog http:/nettie-nettiesnook.blogspot.com so that you can see what I mean.

  15. Looking at your style evolution made me think about my own.. From using fancy scissors to cut around pics on patterned paper and gluing it to white card stock to using SO many techniques and not even touching the fancy scissors and rarely using white paper any more. What a difference!

  17. Really nice to see how your scrapping has changed over the years!
I know my scrapping must have evolved also, but the only thing I can think of (of the top of my head) is that I include stitching now on all my LOs and that I'm not afraid anymore to use just one photo to scrapbook about an event. In the beginning I wanted only LOs with multiple photos.

  18. What a neat post!! It's very cool to see how your style changed each year. I've only been scrapping for 2 years now but I can definitely tell a difference in the way I scrap too. I'll do a post about it today. :)

  19. My scrapbook style has DEFINITELY changed over the years. Unfortunately, all my old scrapbooks are still in storage at my parents' house and they live 1500 miles away so I can't share any of my old layouts with you. But I was in high school when I started scrapbooking and supplies were very limited. I used a lot of stickers and solid colored paper on white backgrounds. It wasn't until right before college when I discovered the store Archiver's that I realized there was such a thing as patterned paper and that you could use it as a background! Gasp! Then in 2006 I discovered Scrapbook.com and got tons of inspiration to evolve my style yet again and the rest is history. :)

  20. Wow...how fun! I love seeing how peoples styles have changed also! LOVE LOVE LOVE your layouts! I just love your style! Mine changed once I was introduced to scrapbooking on-line (forums, blogs, challenges, etc). Love the idea of this post! I've only been taking pictures of my layouts for almost 2 years (I think), but it would be fun to go back to one of my first pages and create a post like this!

  21. I absolutely loved seeing how your style has changed! Mine sure has, too. I still don't think I have one real style - maybe I do??? Anyway, I enjoyed this post very much!!

  22. I started scrapbooking back around 1996 and some of my first layouts were . . . let's just say it was time to revamp! Lots of pictures cut with those decorative scissors - LOL!
After about a year or so, I started leaving pictures squared with mats (I still do that a lot) but I added all those thousands of stickers and paper piecing embellishments.
As the industry grew, so did my supplies and now I am gathering about 1/2 of the stuff to put in a scrapbook yardsale next weekend at my LSS.

  24. I really enjoyed this post, Pammy! It's so cool to see how you've developed as an artist. Really fun read.. thanks for sharing your early work. Most of us want to hide it away and NEVER let anyone see it. :)

  25. Love this post! It is great to see how your style has changed over the years, I must get my earlier albums out and have a look!

  26. It was a blast to see how your style and some of the reader contributors' style has changed. I've only been scrapping "seriously" since last year so I'm still figuring out my style. some pages are simple - lots of photos with little embellishment, and others are blinged out within an inch of their lives! I think the one thing they all have in common is patterned paper! I LOVE my paper!!
I don't have a dedicated post but you are welcome to check out all my posts that feature layouts here:

    Thanks!!

  28. Your style has evolved through the years. I think that's wonderful because our taste change and we also get better at what we do. I used to be real aprehensive and conservative with my L/O. I feel that the more I scrap the easier it is getting to express my self. By the way I love this blog, I have learned a lot from it. Thank you so much

  29. I love seeing your scrap progression and the different styles and trends. When I look back at my old pages, not only do I notice that the scrapping has changed, but also the photography has improved.

  30. It's incredible how my style has evolved over the years--back then, it was all Creative Memories products and cutting photos into shapes and putting stickers in every bit of white space (aka "sticker sneeze"). Now, I've found other companies, put away my decorative-edged scissors and my pages are much more clean and graphic in nature and I like them a whole lot more. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane!

  31. This is such a neat idea! I think I might do this on my blog as well, although it may take awhile to find and scan some of those REALLY old layouts! ;)
